This winter, Alaska Airlines and United Airlines are offering direct flights to Cabo San Lucas Mexico from San Francisco for $320 including all taxes and fees.

Flights leave on Friday morning and return either on Sunday or Monday afternoon.

You can also get one-stop flights that usually either stop in LA, Phoenix, or Dallas for $301, though sometimes with one-stop flights, airlines will re-route you to another city without warning, so paying an extra $20 for a direct flight is often times worth it.

When in Cabo, there is plenty of nightlife and restaurants, but one of the best activities is sports fishing. My suggestion would be to pack a day pack then walk into one of the fishing stores in downtown Cabo, and negotiate a fishing trip. You can often get a personal boat with a guide, equipment, and bate for about $150-200 US.

In terms of timing, for some reason, the middle week in February is a little more expensive, so if you can, try traveling in late January or late February or March.

Hot on the heals of the British Airways discount announcement, I’m researching flight prices for many of their top destinations, including this one, Cairo.

Round trip flights between San Francisco and Cairo will cost no less than $954 including all taxes and fees. You generally save about $50 by flying during the week, but weekend flights will cost just a little over $1000.

Flights typically take about 24 hours and have layovers in Europe.

If you have two weeks, I’d suggest looking at spending a couple of days in Europe as well, as you can usually find cheap flights from any of the major European cities and Cairo (usually about $500 round trip), especially Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt.

British Airways has just announced a round of flight deals for flights flying out of SFO and going to Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Full details of their latest promotion are here. Must fly between Dec 24 and May 23, and in many cases you need to fly during the week.

These aren’t the best deals I’ve found in a while, though $600 for direct roundtrip flights to Europe is a great deal, no matter what time of year you are traveling.

Notable cheap destinations with this round of discounts are Milan, Rome, Paris, London, and Cairo.

Every year, Trinidad celebrates Carnival in its capital of Port of Spain.

This year (2010), Trinidad’s Carnival is on Monday February 15 and Tuesday February 16.

Flights from SFO to Port of Spain cost $594 roundtrip and take between 11 and 19 hours, with a single layover in Miami. $594 includes all taxes and fees.

The cheapest flights for carnival leave on Sunday in the morning and return on Thursday in the morning.

Flights at other times of the year are about $500 roundtrip, so if you’re looking for an unusual but exciting Caribbean getaway sometime this winter, Trinidad & Tobago should be high on your list.

You’ll have to look on a couple of different weekends, but you can find direct weekend flights to Miami from San Francisco for $354 roundtrip on either American Airlines or Alaska Airlines.

You can also find flights at this price that leave most times on Friday (including early morning and early evening), as well as late flights back on Sunday, so you can avoid taking a full day off of work while still getting two full nights in Miami.

If you can take a few days off work, or if you’re willing to fly one or two stop in either direction, you can also find flights for just over $200 to Miami with United Airlines.

With flights to Europe and Asia not looking particularly good these days, domestic destinations are looking more and more appealing.

Virgina America, US Airways, United Airlines, and American Airlines are offering the cheapest flights to Las Vegas right now.

If you can fly out on Thursday morning or Friday morning, and fly back to San Francisco on Sunday morning, the cheapest flights are with Virgin America. They offer direct flights for $119 including all taxes and fees.

For Friday night flights, Virgin America offers flights for $179 (flying back early on Sunday), and United is offering flights for $177.

If you want to book a last minute flight to Las Vegas, US Airways is the cheapest, as flight with Virgin America especially tend to fill up.

Right now, British Airways is offering the cheapest flights to Portugal. Their flights have a layover in London, Heathrow.

Try searching for flights on Tuesday through Thursday.

If you give yourself a few weeks, I haven’t seen flight prices go higher than $706.

If you are forces to take a long layover in Heathrow, be advised that you can leave the airport, and check out London for a few hours, but if you do so, be advised that security lines to get back into the airport can be quite difficult.

Total flight time to Lisbon from San Francisco is anywhere form 16 to 20-something hours including the layover stop.

During a couple of specific dates in November and January, Copa Airlines is offering roundtrip flights to Lima Peru from SFO for $432 including all taxes and fees.

Flights have two short stops in Houston and Panama City, and take about 15 hours each way.

American Airlines and Continental also offer flights to Peru, but right now their prices are about $700 round trip. Still, a decent price to get to South America.

Flights to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro can be more towards $1000 roundtrip, while the cheapest places to fly in South America right now are Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru.
