All summer long, flights to Rome from San Francisco are in the $800-900 range, until late August, when prices drop to $631 roundtrip including taxes and fees.

Flight Details:

I’ve found flights to Rome at this price for most days in late August, starting around August 20th, especially on 7 and 8 day trips leaving on Wednesdays.

Flights are with Delta, Northwest, Continental, United Airlines, or KLM Airlines.

Try looking for flights that fly out on August 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, or 27th.

Things to Do in Rome:

Even if you still haven’t seen the movie version of Angels and Demons (count me in that group) , most visitors usually head to the Vatican, Piazza Navano, or Old Rome first.

And Old Rome, is Old, dating back to 400 BC, where as old towns in many other European cities only refer to areas going back to the Middle Ages.

Time permitting, I’d also suggest a quick train ride up to Florence, Siena, or Cinque Terra.

Cinque Terra is one of the most beautiful regions in all of Europe. Its comprised of five villages on the Italian coastline, connected by hiking trails. Here are some photos.
