May need to fly during the week, as that is when flights tend to be the cheapest. Try searching for some flights leaving on Monday, August 11th for starters.
From Belize City, there is plenty to do. Start off by catching a taxi to either the water taxi station or the public bus station. From the water taxi station, you can catch cheap taxi rides to either Caulker Caye or Ambergris Caye.
From the public bus station, you can catch a public bus west to San Ignacio, which serves as the perfect jump off point to Tikal or to other former Mayan city states in the area (there are MANY).
A Jungle cruise in the north of Belize is supposed to be one of the best experiences as well.
